Mode of action of colicin A.
نویسنده
چکیده
Colicin A acting on sensitive cells of Escherichia coli inhibits a number of energy-requiring cellular functions. It appears to act similarly to colicins E1 and K.

متن کاملStages in colicin K action, as revealed by the action of trypsin.
The effects of trypsin on Escherichia coli cells that have been treated with colicins have been examined. By the use of trypsin, it has been possible to demonstrate that the action of several colicins (E1, E2, and K) proceeds through at least two stages. Stage I is a period after colicin adsorption when trypsin can restore colony-forming ability to a colicin-treated cell. Stage I is followed by...
متن کاملDetection of Colicin genes by PCR in Escherichia coli isolated from cattle in Shiraz-Iran
A variety of probiotic bacteria have been tested to control animal and foodborne pathogenic bacteria in livestock. The mechanism of inhibition of pathogenic bacteria for several of those probiotic microorganisms is mediated by the production of bacteriocins. Colicins are probably the group of bacteriocins that have been most thoroughly characterized. Colicins are antimicrobial proteins produced...
متن کاملColicin B: mode of action and inhibition by enterochelin.
Adsorption of colicin B to a sensitive strain of Escherichia coli results in rapid cessation of deoxyribonucleic acid, ribonucleic acid, and protein synthesis. Some classes of mutants insensitive to colicin B hyperexcrete a colicin inhibitor into their growth medium. This inhibitor functions by preventing adsorption of colicin B and does not rescue cells to which colicin has already adsorbed. T...
متن کاملMode of action of colicins of types E1, E2, E3, and K.
The effect of colicins on deoxyribonucleic acid and protein synthesis, and also their effect on the ability of T4 phage to replicate in Escherichia coli K-12, were studied. Colicins of type K inhibited deoxyribonucleic acid synthesis, protein synthesis, and phage growth. Among colicins of type E, there was an absolute correlation between mode of action and subdivision into types E(1), E(2), and...
